ePLDT mulls $900 million data centre investment

The corporate division of PLDT is planning to invest between $600 million to $900 million for the establishment of its 12th data centre, situated in Metro Manila.

According to Victor Genuino, the President and Chief Executive Officer of ePLDT, the 12th data centre will possess a power capacity of 100 megawatts (MW), with an estimated cost per MW ranging from $6 million to $9 million. Genuino shared this information during an interview conducted on the sidelines of the PH Digicon 2023 press briefing. ePLDT eyes to start the construction of the new data centre by 2025.

“What’s important for us is we secured already the property. We already started the design of the data centre, you know technology is changing so fast,” Genuino added.

The 12th data will address the demand of both hyperscalers and local enterprise clients in the Philippines.

In the first quarter of 2024, ePLDT will launch its 11th data centre, VITRO Sta. Rosa, that will be the country’s largest and most advanced data centre with a total power capacity of 50 MW.

Designed to be Rated-3 Certified and Rated-4 Ready, it is fit to host the most critical and power-intensive information technology infrastructure of hyperscalers and enterprises, ePLDT said.

“We’re going to launch the first phase of our data centre (11th data centre), we expect the full data centre fit out 50 megawatts load to be finished by the first quarter of 2025,” Genuino said.

Currently, ePLDT offers a total rack capacity of nearly 10,000 and owns a network of 10 globally certified VITRO data centre facilities strategically located across the country.
