Norwegian-based Green Mountain, a leader in sustainable colocation data centres, has revealed that it is expanding into the London market with the acquisition of an existing data centre and available adjacent land in Romford, both with further expansion and development potential.
Azrieli Group and the seller signed a Share Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of the properties owned by Infinity SDC. The campus includes an existing data centre with significant expansion potential and available land for further development and is located less than ten miles from the major financial centres of the City of London and Docklands.
With the use of secured green power, it is capable of supporting up to 40MW of IT load and already has several strong UK enterprises as core tenants. Completion of the acquisition is subject to certain conditions and is expected to take place before the end of the year.
Tor Kristian Gyland, CEO of Green Mountain, commented: “We are very excited to expand our operations outside of Norway and this site is a perfect match for us. London is an extremely important data centre hub and a must-have location for many international companies. With this expansion, we can offer a broader portfolio of sites with immediately available green power, and serve clients who have capacity requirements or need to remain in the London area while still achieving their sustainability targets. This is a long-awaited request from both our current and prospective clients.”
Green Mountain plans to develop service capacity to support rapid time-to-market objectives, while simultaneously upgrading and modernizing the sites to meet Green Mountain’s strict sustainability standards. The site is already supported by 100 per cent renewable energy, with significant potential to implement Green Mountain’s vision of ‘Setting the Green Standard’. Company, site, and communications will be fully re-branded and brought to market as a recognisable Green Mountain location.
COO of Green Mountain, Truls Dishington, is pleased to welcome new colleagues to the company: “The experienced and competent workforce at the sites will complement the Green Mountain organization well. We look forward to merging these two work cultures, where operational excellence is at the heart of both businesses.”
Danna Azrieli, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors along with Eyal Henkin, CEO of the Azrieli Group, added: “We have strategically targeted the Data Centre industry as one of our main growth engines and are confident that the execution of this unique opportunity will set a new standard for sustainable colocation services in the UK. Our vision is to gradually expand our footprint in several International markets, and London is an ideal location to continue building our data centre strategy.”
