Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, plays a pivotal role in furnishing essential physical infrastructure and software solutions to STACK Infrastructure’s MIL01A facility in Milan. This collaboration is instrumental in propelling the organisation toward a sustainable and digitally-driven future in Italy.
STACK, a prominent digital infrastructure partner to innovative companies worldwide, is a leading developer and operator of data centres. STACK EMEA was formed through the integration of three well-established European businesses, creating a powerful force in sustainable colocation and hyperscale data centre development. Today, STACK offers clients unmatched flexibility for expansion and a sustainable growth platform. Simultaneously, it actively engages with local communities to foster mutually beneficial relationships that create value for all stakeholders.
Globally, STACK operates data centres powered by 100% renewable energy, prioritising water and power efficiency while adhering to ASHRAE TC9.9 thermal guidelines. In Milan, Italy, STACK has partnered with Schneider Electric to achieve exceptional data centre efficiency at its MIL01A facility, with an annualised operational power usage effectiveness (PUE) of approximately 1.3 and a water usage effectiveness (WUE) of around 0.8.
To optimise its powertrain efficiency, STACK utilises Schneider Electric’s highly efficient Galaxy™ VX UPS with Li-Ion batteries in its MIL01A facility, along with Schneider Electric racks, Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units, electrical distribution, and switchgear. Additionally, STACK has implemented custom cooling technologies at some EMEA facilities, allowing rainwater harvesting and reducing reliance on public water supplies.
Software plays a crucial role in STACK’s operations, with the MIL01A data centre utilising Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ platform, including modules like Data Centre Expert, EcoStruxure IT Expert, and Power Monitoring Expert. The Building Management System (BMS), powered by EcoStruxure, integrates with critical systems to monitor, automate, and reduce energy consumption, promoting efficient and holistic operations.
Through meticulous design and operational practises, complemented by Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure for Data Centre portfolio, STACK offers unparallelled sustainability and efficiency to clients in Italy. Like Schneider Electric, STACK is committed to driving innovative sustainable development practises in the face of increasing demand for digital growth and data centre expansion.
STACK’s commitments also extend to the surrounding municipalities, contributing fibre optic connections for schools and local administrations. Through its industry-leading digital infrastructure in Milan, the company provides a gateway to technological advancements and a host of benefits for students and local businesses. These include training for local workers, creating highly skilled jobs through its STEM Education Programmes and diverse on-ramps for people to build rewarding data centre careers.
