Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) intends to develop a modern data campus in Johor.

Singtel conveyed its interest to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during his three-day working visit to Singapore. Singtel expressed its intention to establish an advanced and environmentally sustainable data campus in Johor, incorporating cutting-edge technology and green initiatives.

Singtel believes that with its expertise and high-quality telecommunications infrastructure, it will drive Johor’s development as a leading communication and data centre hub in the Asian region.

Onn Hafiz added that the investment will position Johor as a prime investment destination for renewable energy and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Singtel is listed on the Singapore Exchange as the fourth-largest company by market capitalisation. It operates the largest mobile network in the republic by serving 4.1 million subscribers. Through its subsidiaries, Singtel also has a mobile customer base of over 775 million across more than 20 countries.

The state government approved investments worth RM10.6 billion for the first quarter (Q1) of 2023. The vision of transforming Johor into a developed state by 2030 can be achieved through the participation of more industry players in expanding their businesses in Johor.
