Poh Seng (PS) Lee is a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), holding the Dean’s Chair at the College of Design and Engineering. With a focus on enhanced heat transfer, microchannels, liquid cooling, thermal management, and electronics cooling, Dr. Lee has made significant contributions to mechanical engineering.
Dr. Lee’s most cited works include groundbreaking research in microchannel heat transfer enhancement and its applications in thermal systems like data center cooling, electric vehicle battery thermal management, and power electronics cooling. His research has led to over 160 peer-reviewed publications, 3 monographs, and 9,324 citations as of August 20, 2023, with an H-index of 46.
Currently, Dr. Lee serves as the Executive Director of the Energy Studies Institute (ESI), Co-Director of Singapore Energy Centre (SgEC), and Director of Centre for Energy Research & Technology (CERT) at NUS. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Energy Institute (EI), and Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), and a member of the University Sustainability and Climate Action Council (USCAC).
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Lee is the founder of CoolestDC, a start-up company dedicated to developing high-efficiency cooling solutions for data centers. His entrepreneurial spirit is further demonstrated as the Co-Founder, Chairman & CTO of GCoreLab, and Programme Director of CoolestSG – Cooling Energy Science and Technology Singapore.
Dr. Lee’s awards include being named among the Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists by Stanford University in 2022 and 2021, Fellow of ASME and EI in 2021, and Fellow of IES in 2018. He has also received the NUS Faculty of Engineering’s Young Faculty Research Award and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, among others.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and MEng and BEng degrees from the National University of Singapore. Dr. Lee has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University.
As an associate editor of IEEE CPMT and ASME Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer and an editorial board member of Advances in Applied Energy, Dr. Lee’s influence extends to the broader academic community.
