The presentation will offer insight into IoT application’s anatomy and terminology – weighing the benefits against traditional non-IoT philosophies. IoT platforms expedite the management and monitoring of power grid, smart cities, water network, etc.– now necessary for long-term maintenance of these technologically advanced solutions. This session will concentrate on inter-connectivity–to not only centralize IT resources but to reduce operating costs and foster coordination across massively distributed site footprints. As with any technology deployment, IoT introduces unique advantages and challenges for enterprises, specifically when engaging in wide-area global portfolios. A concentrated focus will be on the security implications of a typical IoT rollout and how they differ from legacy monitoring solutions, including how I.T. standards play a role. Additionally, security methodologies and technological approaches will be discussed involving physical security, data transfer, control, and analytics services.
